Ninety-two Howard County students in state District 9A have been awarded scholarships, Del. Gail Bates, R-District 9A, announced.
A total of $34,000 was given from the Delegate Scholarship Program, created by theMaryland General Assembly in 1957 for students planning to attend colleges in the state.
A committee of Howard County civic leaders evaluated the students based on leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, academic achievement and worth ethic.
Students from Centennial, Glenelg, Howard, Mount Hebron and River Hill high schools, Mount de sales Academy and Covenant Life School, as well as two home school students received the awards.
Several current undergraduate and graduate college students also received scholarships from Bates.
Scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year will be available in mid-February. Eligible students from District 9A should e-mail Bates or call 410-841-3556.
Centennial High School graduates receiving scholarships are: Jennifer Bonczar, Alyse Carter, Kathleen Levendusky, Jill Lieberman, Jeffrey Miller, Kasey Quinn and Grant Vickers.
Glenelg High School graduates include: Anne Axenfeld, Morgan Clark, Ryan Hanft, Allyson Happel and Meghan Starinsky.
Howard High School seniors receiving awards: Jaclyn Fiackos and Christopher Okoye.
Mount Hebron High School seniors receiving awards: Rubab Ali, Lakshe Arumugam, Kevin Doxzen, Megan McNerney and Allison Milgram.
River Hill High School seniors: Whitney Feizipour, Christine Hindle and Courtney Teed. Two home school students receiving awards are Elizabeth Merkel and Timothy Merkel.
Other recipients attending other high schools include Samantha Bennett (Mount de Sales Academy) and Stephanie Martin (Covenant Life School).
Current undergraduate College Park students included: Mitchell Amoros, Justin Andes, Matthew Bembenek, Michael Cascio, Grace Chiou, Jenna Frey, Julie Giffin, Amber Hinkle, Caroline Killian, Isaac Kim, Michelle Lacey, Mark Mantua, Marc McCormack, Dylan Podson, Jeffrey Quarrick, Ryan Quinn, Christopher Raabe, Bradley Secrest, Alyssa Seibert, Megan Silas, Patrick Silas, Jason Strewig, Sarah Todd, Catherine Valavanis and Christopher Weir.

Saint Mary?s University), Victoria Nielsen (Frostburg State University), Nikita Parson (Morgan State University), Christine Sansone (McDaniel College) and Josephine Wamwea (Community College of Baltimore County).
