SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (AP) — The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge is holding events to mark the span’s anniversary.
The Evening News of Sault Ste. Marie reports Wednesday marks the 50th anniversary of public use of the bridge linking Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
As part of the events, passenger vehicle tolls are being rolled back to rates in place in 1962. The $3 rate and $2.10 Prox Card rate are $1.25 per crossing between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Also this week, officials announced that 8-year-old Jacob Balgue won a contest sponsored by the International Bridge Administration to build a model of the span. Jacob, a third-grader at William Merrifield Public School Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, used plastic and playing cards. He takes home $125.
