Pelosi: Trump committed to ‘hateful and divisive vision’ with Bannon appointment

Naming Steve Bannon chief strategist is a sign that Donald Trump “remains committed to the hateful and divisive vision that defined his campaign,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Monday.

Pelosi, D- Calf., joined Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., in condemning Trump’s appointment of Bannon, who is the chief executive of Breitbart News, which has published stories with headlines insulting to Jews, women and racial minorities.

“After winning the presidency but losing the popular vote, President-elect Trump must try to bring Americans together — not continue to fan the flames of division and bigotry,” Pelosi said in a statement issued Monday.

“Bringing Steve Bannon into the White House is an alarming signal that President-elect Trump remains committed to the hateful and divisive vision that defined his campaign. There must be no sugarcoating the reality that a white nationalist has been named chief strategist for the Trump administration.”
