Clinton campaign holds contest for nomination speech

Hillary Clinton’s campaign is currently on the hunt for a Democrat to officially put her name in for the nomination at the convention in Philadelphia, and they’re turning to her supporters for help.

On Friday, the campaign officially launched a contest where individuals can apply via video submission to be the person who formally nominates Clinton from the convention floor. Clinton has more than the 2,383 delegates necessary to win the Democratic nomination, but the formal vote must take place.

In past years, a prominent Democrat would have given the nominating speech. In 2008, former Vice President Al Gore nominated Barack Obama, and former President Bill Clinton did the same in 2012.

In order to win the contest, voters must submit a short video about “what Hillary’s nomination means to you and why its important to elect her and bring the American people together to break down the barriers holding us back.”

The Clinton campaign has extended many contests to voters, most recently offering them the chance to see the Broadway musical “Hamilton” with the presumptive Democratic nominee. Other contests included dinner with Clinton along the campaign trail or the opportunity to be the candidate’s guest at a Hollywood campaign fundraiser.
