The 3-minute interview: Marta Wilson

Wilson has found success as the chief executive officer of Transformation Systems Inc., the executive-strategies firm she founded in the District. With her Feed to Lead initiative, she wants to help provide others the means to achieve success.

Why do you want your company to volunteer?

It goes to the heart of who I am as a person. I believe that it really truly is our responsibility to help other people. And for those of us who have the means to do something, to make a difference, or lead a difference, if you will, to help make our communities stronger, I believe with every fiber of my being that it is our responsibility.

Where did the Feed to Lead idea come from?

Two or three years ago, all of our folks were really trying to come up with what is it, what is the one thing we want to do to help the community. Someone one day said, ‘Let’s get back to basics. You can’t lead if you’re hungry.’ It just resonated with everyone in the company. So our goal is to look for ways that we can help feed the mind, the body, and spirit of all of these potential leaders walking around about us.

[How] will the program get started?

One of vice presidents of TSI will be leading a team of our employees — I think he’s taking about five or six of our consultants — over to So Others Might Eat, and they will be serving breakfast all morning.

Who can volunteer?

We have been talking with our employees to encourage their friends and family to join them in collaboration with our initiative. … We’re encouraging people to get the word out, and let our clients know. All of our commercial clients, we’re not asking them to take any action, but we’re just letting them know.
