MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) — A three-day Michigan event for civic-minded software developers and designers offers cash prizes for working to create online and mobile applications.
“Code Michigan” takes place Friday to Sunday in Detroit, Newaygo and Marquette.

David Behen, director of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, also serves as the state’s chief information officer. In a statement, he says participants can “help reinvent Michigan’s government by creating mobile and web apps for the public good.”
First, second and third place prizes will be awarded at the three locations. First prize is $5,000, second prize is $1,500 and third prize is $500. The first place winners will go on to compete for a grand prize that includes $10,000.
Last year, the first “Code Michigan” event took place in Detroit.
