Kaine criticizes title of Trump book as politically incorrect

Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., claimed Thursday that the title to Donald Trump’s latest book is offensive because it contains the word “crippled.”

The GOP nominee’s newest book is currently titled “Great Again: How to Fix Our Crippled America.” When it was first released last year, it was titled “Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again.”

For Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Trump’s use of the word “crippled” is problematic.

“This is the book that Donald Trump wrote when he decided to run for president. The book is called ‘Crippled America.’ ‘Crippled America,'” Kaine said Thursday at a campaign rally held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Kaine added, “Now, first, that phrase is offensive to me. That’s like an old-timey phrase that we ought to just consign to the dustbin. That’s not the way we talk these days.”

The Virginia senator went on to claim that the book and its title encapsulates perfectly Trump’s negative and gloomy vision of America.

Kaine’s suggestion that the title to Trump’s book is offensive comes as the GOP nominee claims to oppose the culture of “political correctness.”

“I will present the facts plainly and honestly,” Trump said in his nomination speech during the Republican National Convention this year in Cleveland. “We cannot afford to be so politically correct anymore.”

Earlier, during the first GOP primary debate, Trump said “political correctness” is killing America.

“The big problem this country has is being politically correct. I’ve been challenged by so many people and I don’t frankly have time for total political correctness,” the GOP nominee said. “And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time either. This country is in big trouble.”

“What I say is what I say,” he said.
