Six injured in North Texas house explosion

Six people were wounded following an explosion that destroyed a home and damaged several surrounding houses in Plano, Texas, officials said.

The incident happened at around 4:40 p.m. on Monday. Images from the scene show the explosion leveling the home and scattering bits of debris across the neighborhood. One of the injured victims was inside the house that exploded, and five were from a neighboring home. All victims were transported to nearby medical facilities, the fire department said.

“When we arrived, we found the home of origin of course with major catastrophic damage,” Captain Peggy Harrell of Plano Fire Rescue told NBC.

Fire department officials are still investigating the cause of the explosion as of Tuesday morning. Investigators from the department and the natural gas company Atmos Energy were at the scene on Monday.

Three of the wounded victims were taken to a children’s hospital, according to officials, but specific age details and their conditions were not immediately available.

Two nearby homes suffered damage, and an additional house across the street had all of its windows blown out.

“We are saddened by today’s tragedy of a house explosion in our City,” Plano Mayor John Muns said in a statement sent to local media.

“Several of our residents were injured. We are keeping them and their families close to our hearts and hoping for a swift and full recovery,” the mayor added.

A nearby doorbell camera captured the blast the moment it occurred, showing the debris in the air.

Atmos Energy is continuing to support local law enforcement and fire officials during the investigation, the company told the Washington Examiner on Tuesday.
