Metro bomb plot suspect enters not guilty plea

Farooque Ahmed, the Ashburn man accused of plotting to bomb Metro stations, has entered a not guilty plea in federal court in Alexandria.

A trial date for Ahmed, 34, has been scheduled for April 11. Ahmed, who is facing three terrorism-related charges, waived his right to a speedy trial because his attorneys say they need more time to prepare.

Ahmed was arrested in late October as part of an FBI sting operation. Prosecutors say he conducted surveillance and recorded video of Metrorail stations in Arlington, and gave the information to government agents posing as al Qaeda terrorists. Ahmed thought he was helping plan a bombing of the stations, according to court documents.
