Mexican peso surges after Clinton seen as debate winner

The value of the Mexican peso soared in Asian trade on Tuesday, a by-product of what some perceived as a win for Hillary Clinton in her debate against Donald Trump on Monday night.

The peso jumped 1.5 percent on the day, from 19.575 to 19.587 when put up against the dollar.

“Overall, there seems to be some adjustment of positions that had been betting on Trump risk,” a trader for a Japanese bank told Reuters.

Trump has promised to build a wall across the southern border dividing the U.S. and Mexico, and insisted the southern nation will pay for it, upsetting Mexico.
