Trump taps Obama-era Border Patrol chief to run ICE

President Trump announced Sunday his new pick to run the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Trump announced over Twitter that Mark Morgan, who previously served as head of Border Patrol under former President Barack Obama, would be filling the role.

“I am pleased to inform all of those that believe in a strong, fair and sound Immigration Policy that Mark Morgan will be joining the Trump Administration as the head of our hard working men and women of ICE. Mark is a true believer and American Patriot. He will do a great job!”

Trump pulled ICE chief nominee Ronald Vitiello back in April, saying that he wanted the agency to go in a “tougher direction.”

Morgan served as head of the Border Patrol during the last six months of the Obama administration before being removed from the position when Trump took office. Since then, Morgan has publicly supported Trump’s calls for a border wall.
