Presidential candidate Andrew Yang backed Sen. Bernie Sanders’s claim to victory in Iowa after days of uncertainty over delayed results of the caucus that threw the voting process and potential winner into question.
“It sure looks like Bernie won Iowa,” Yang tweeted on Thursday. “Excited to compete for the win in New Hampshire on Tuesday!”

Pete Buttigieg said he was “victorious” in Iowa even before any results were announced and media outlets ran with the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, leading the tight race after Iowa Democratic Party chair Troy Price announced 62% of the vote the day after chaos ensued in the first-in-the-nation caucuses.
Bernie Sanders’s campaign also declared victory after 97% of votes reported showed significant gains for the Vermont senator.
The Democratic Party of Iowa was fiercely criticized for its failure to register votes due to a glitch in the software of a voting app it commissioned to count votes and delegates.
This isn’t the first time Yang, an entrepreneur who has made the $1,000-a-month “freedom dividend” a staple of his campaign, voiced support for the senior Vermont Independent. Last week, Yang said he expected his supporters to move to Sanders after the initial round of voting in the Iowa caucuses, pointing to overlap between his base and the Sanders camp.
“I think that Bernie and I do have a lot of overlap in support, so it wouldn’t be surprising to me if many of our supporters head in that direction,” Yang said.
Yang, 45, received 5% of the first-round vote in Iowa.
