Woman, 83, in serious condition after being hit by Prince William’s motorcycle outrider

An grandmother is in hospital and in “serious but stable” condition following an incident with a convoy carrying Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Irene Mayor, 83, is believed to have been crossing the street when a police motorcycle outrider, whose job it was to cordon off traffic, drove by as the royals were leaving London to attend an event at Windsor Castle.

It was not immediately clear whether the woman was knocked down or fell, according to the Daily Mail. Police were investigating the incident.

Simon Banks, who lives near Mayor, said: “A lady was on the ground being attended to by the paramedics and a police motorcycle was lying on its side on the road nearby.”

A spokesman for the duke and duchess said they were “deeply concerned and saddened” about Mayor’s condition and have been in contact with her family. The royal couple also sent her flowers.
