Uniter/Divider

Inside the numbers of an ABC poll in which the numbers are decidedly not going the president’s way, there is this interesting nugget:

In general assessments, moreover, Americans by a 17-point margin say Obama has done more to divide than to unite the country, a rating worse than George W. Bush’s early in his poorly rated second term – and one that’s deteriorated among Obama’s supporters as well as among his critics.

The politics of this are not, of course, good for the president or his party. The long trend policy implications, with a major foreign policy address due tomorrow, are also troubling.

At the end of his term of office, George W. Bush could not sell his successes. President Obama will be attempting, tomorrow, to redeem his failures.
