A White House adviser said Republicans are “in lockstep” with the Kremlin over whom to blame for rising inflation in the United States.
Jesse Lee, a White House communications adviser, tweeted two screenshots, one of Russian President Vladimir Putin saying inflation and rising prices would put pressure on Western politicians and another of Florida Sen. Rick Scott saying the recent consumer price index numbers would be “a wakeup call” for President Joe Biden.
“Putin and @SenRickScott fully in lockstep in blaming Biden for Putin’s Price Hike,” Lee said. “So surprising.”

Scott responded roughly an hour after Lee’s initial post, saying the White House “REALLY doesn’t like it when you point out that @JoeBiden’s disastrous policies are causing skyrocketing inflation.” He then encouraged social media users to share his post if they agree that “Biden’s reckless spending is causing #Bidenflation.”

The Democratic Party’s “War Room” Twitter account issued its own statement just after Scott responded to Lee, claiming Republicans who talk about inflation “STILL don’t have a plan to lower prices.”

In fact, Republican lawmakers and candidates are rallying around an agenda of raising taxes on millions of Americans and sunsetting Social Security and Medicare.

Consumer prices increased 8.5% in the 12 months ending in March, making the inflation rate higher than at any time since December 1981. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday that the Biden administration expected “headline inflation to be extraordinarily elevated due to Putin’s price hike.”

Putin claimed Russia’s economy can withstand the sanctions it faces in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine and said that nations on nearly every continent are too dependent on Russian energy exports and food to allow for complete isolation.
