After President Trump’s campaign kick-off rally on Tuesday, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo said Democrats cannot pack stadiums like he can.
“One simple question, why don’t the Democrats pack stadiums the way this president does?” Cuomo asked presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
“Oh, but we do. We have a lot of stadiums we’re packing at the same time with so many people running. I think you’ve seen our candidates throughout the years generate that energy and you certainly saw it in 2018 … I am not one bit worried about the excitement on our side. We just have to unite behind a candidate and that’s what these debates are about,” the Minnesota Democrat said.
After his interview with Klobuchar, Cuomo was still not convinced about Democrats being able to generate voter excitement on the same level as Trump.
“There’s no reason to hide from the facts. It’s about understanding what they mean. There’s a big crowd for the president. I would actually differ with the senator, I don’t think Democrats are packing any place the way he is. And size does matter. But we have to look at what matters about the size,” he said.
CNN chose to cut away from airing Trump’s rally live after the crowd began chanting “CNN sucks!” MSNBC chose not to air the event at all.
