New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo walked back his remarks about America’s greatness, saying Friday the country actually is great because Americans reject President Trump’s “hate-filled” agenda.
Taking a shot at Trump’s campaign slogan, Cuomo said Wednesday that “we’re not going to make America great again, it was never that great.” A spokesman for Cuomo clarified that the Democratic governor believes the U.S. has not yet reached its full potential.
Trump asked earlier Friday how Cuomo could politically “survive” such comments, prompting Cuomo to fire back, “Bring it on.”
“Let’s get something straight: America is great because it rejects your hate-filled agenda of bigotry & sexism,” Cuomo tweeted.
[Opinion: Andrew Cuomo doesn’t see America’s greatness because he doesn’t know where to look]
We know how tough Trump is: hiding behind tweets & ripping babies from their mothers arms
Let’s get something straight: America is great because it rejects your hate-filled agenda of bigotry & sexism
Ny’ers have your number @realDonaldTrump & will fight you all day
Bring it on

It was the second time this week Trump has targeted Cuomo. On Wednesday he accused the governor of having a “total meltdown” in response to his comments.
Cuomo is currently running for re-election.
