Hillary Clinton claimed Monday evening that her opponent, Donald Trump, wants to take America back to a time where people were free to question the country’s founding principles.
Her remarks came as she attacked the Republican nominee for his continued refusal to say whether he’ll accept the results of the 2016 election.
“Let’s show tomorrow there will be no question about the outcome of this election!” Clinton said Monday as she rallied supporters in Philadelphia. “I am not going to let anybody rip away the progress we have made and turn the clock back, sending us back in time where people are free to question the foundation of our country.”
“What our founders here did, you know, they did not agree on everything in case you haven’t remembered. There were lots of contentious arguments, but they saw a higher purpose and they came together,” she added haltingly. “That’s what I want us to do. and we can take the first step tomorrow.”
Though much of her address in the City of Brotherly Love focused on criticizing her opponent, she also outlined her agenda.
“I also want you to know I will be a president for all Americans: Democrats, Republicans, independents. Not just the people who support me in this election. Everyone,” she said. “Because I believe we all have a role to play in building a better, fairer, stronger America. Building on the progress that we have enjoyed under President Barack Obama over the last eight years.”
Clinton claimed elsewhere in the same address that she believes America is already great, and that it can be greater, but she also said recognizes some of the country’s shortcomings, particularly in areas regarding criminal justice reform and gun violence.
