Police: ?Intruder? stabbed elderly woman to death

Baltimore police say they believe an intruder was responsible for the stabbing death of an elderly woman in North Baltimore Monday.

Police say they were called by neighbors who heard screaming to the 200 block of West 31st Street at 5:30 a.m., where they found Nancy Schmidt, 74, suffering from multiple stab wounds in her  home.

“We know she had some type of intruder in the house,” said police spokesman Agent Donny Moses, who added detectives had no immediate suspects and know of no motive.

At Dizzy Izzie?s, bartender
Jen Gray said the neighborhood, next to Wyman Park and
Johns Hopkins University, “is getting better” but noted she still sees flashes of violent crime.

“It?s crazy what happened to that lady,” Gray said. Neighbors and relatives told WJZ that Schmidt was a kind woman who looked out for others.

“She was a really good, giving woman,” said postal carrier Larry Dammons. “… Her husband just passed about two years ago. He was blind. She was taking care of him.”
