Basketball legend usurps Valentine’s Day

Men of the District of Columbia, there is a disclaimer for what we are about to tell you. The following event takes place on Feb. 14.

A speaker is coming to the University of the District of Columbia. When you hear who he is, you will want to cancel your Valentine’s Day plans and run to UDC. I wouldn’t do that, you’re thinking. I love my girlfriend/wife/TiVo.

But when’s the last time she dazzled you like Kareem Abdul Jabbar?

Considered one of the greatest athletes in the history of ever, Jabbar will speak to UDC and Wilson High School students about “basketball, history, and life lessons,” according to the university’s release. No word on whether he’ll re-enact his role in Airplane!, but he will preview a documentary called “On The Shoulders of Giants,” based on his book about the New York Reinaissance Big Five.

“UDC welcomes this true giant to our campus,” said University President Allen Sessoms. “His message to our youth is a positive one and one from which we can all learn.”

You’ve already called her to cancel, haven’t you? You’ve already forgotten who “she” is, haven’t you? Oh well. Maybe next year.
