Joe Biden agreed that only white people qualifying for the next Democratic debate did not represent the diversity of the party, but he argued his own campaign was diverse.
“It’s not representative of the party,” the former vice president said on Friday. “But you can’t dictate who is going to be the nominee, who’s going to be able to garner votes, who’s going to be able to stay in the race.”
Biden said that his own staff had diversity. “My staff is representative of the Democratic Party,” the Delaware Democrat said.
On possibility of a debate stage of all-white candidates, Joe Biden tells @ABC News, “Obviously it’s not representative of the Democratic Party.”

Sen. Cory Booker and Julian Castro both complained that only white people have qualified for the December Democratic debate. Booker described the field as “spiraling toward” a point with “no diversity.”
The discussion about diversity heated up after Sen. Kamala Harris dropped out the 2020 race, citing no path to victory. Castro said the media treated her with “a double standard.”
