Thanks to Botox, sweaty armpits may soon be a thing of the past.

“As humans, we sweat,” said Carroll County Hospital dermatologist Lawrence Feldman. “What makes [sweating] abnormal or normal is its effect on the person.”

People with excessive sweating ? hyperhidrosis ? are often embarrassed or reluctant to wear particular clothes because their pores secrete perspiration without triggers such as heat, physical activity or nervousness, Feldman said.

“I have many patients that come in to see me because they will be in class, just sitting there, and sweat will start dripping off them,” he said.

To combat heavy perspiration, physicians inject Botox into armpits, Feldman said.

“The same Botox that gets rid of wrinkles and lines because it disables muscles is given [to patients?] underarms to disable sweat glands.”
