Actor George Takei dealt what was perhaps the first political-gotcha of April Fools’ Day.
The “Star Trek” actor tweeted a story early Saturday from the Daily Buzz website, in which he was quoted saying that he is running for U.S. Congress in California against House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes. Nunes has been mired in controversy over the past two weeks after he briefed President Trump on intelligence reports he was shown on the White House grounds before informing members of his own committee.

“I think Nunes is vulnerable. And I plan to prove that,” Takei said. “People are tired of his ass-kissing of Trump. Can I say that? I think I can. These days you can say pretty much anything and not get in trouble.”
Later in the morning, Takei revealed it was all an April Fools’ joke.
“No, I’m not running for Congress. Happy 4/1!” he tweeted, along with a picture of him holding a notepad photo-shopped with the word “Gotcha!”
