More details have emerged about President Trump’s $5,000 donation to Sen. Kamala Harris nearly a decade ago.
Court records reviewed by Fox News show disgraced former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman solicited the contribution from Trump and his daughter Ivanka in 2011.
“Mr. Schneiderman’s former transition committee leader asked my daughter Ivanka if she would arrange for me to make a contribution to a fundraising event sponsored by Mr. Schneiderman for newly elected California Attorney General Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote in an affidavit.
“In response, I made a $5,000 contribution to Ms. Harris’ campaign — the highest level of sponsorship listed in the invitation — and Ivanka attended the event together with some of Trump Org.’s other top executives,” the sworn statement said.
The affidavit was related to an ethics complaint Trump filed in 2013 against Schneiderman. Trump claimed at the time that the prosecutor had indicated that an investigation into Trump University was complete when it was not.
Schneiderman resigned as attorney general in May 2018 amid accusations that he had physically abused women.
The $5,000 donation was one of several the Trumps made to Harris’ reelection campaign for California attorney general. The president also donated $1,000 to her in 2013, and Ivanka Trump contributed $2,000 in 2014.
Harris is now vying for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination to face off against Trump in the general election.
A Harris spokesman told the Sacramento Bee in March that the candidate had donated the $6,000 from Trump to a nonprofit group that helps Central Americans in 2015. It remains unclear if she also returned the $2,000 from Ivanka Trump.
