Kamala Harris calls Boulder shooting ‘absolutely baffling’ as motive still unknown

Vice President Kamala Harris labeled a mass shooting that left 10 people dead on Monday at a Boulder, Colorado, grocery store just a week after another gunman killed eight people in Atlanta as “baffling” and “tragic.”

“It’s absolutely baffling, it’s 10 people going about their day living their lives, not bothering anybody,” Harris said during a ceremonial swearing-in at the White House Tuesday for CIA Director William Burns. “A police officer who is performing his duties, and with great courage and heroism. Seven children, I understand. Tragic.”

Harris did not answer a question from reporters after the event about whether gun legislation is now a greater priority for the White House following the deadly shootings.

‘HE JUST CAME IN AND STARTED SHOOTING’: WITNESSES RECOUNT COLORADO SUPERMARKET SHOOTING

President Biden has yet to comment publicly on the Colorado shooting. He is slated to leave the White House early Tuesday afternoon for a trip to Ohio to sell his massive spending bill and could address reporters.

On Monday, a shooter opened fire at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, killing 10 people, including one police officer. The other nine victims have not been publicly identified, and investigators have not released details on a potential motive for the killer.

The slain officer has been identified as Eric Talley, a father of seven, who had been with the Boulder police for more than a decade. Talley was the first to arrive after responding to a call about shots fired and someone carrying a rifle.

“He just came in and started shooting,” one witness told the Denver Post, referring to the shooter. According to another person, the gunman “let off a couple of shots, then was silent, and then he let off a couple more. He wasn’t spraying.”
