Nearly $30,000 was raised within five days for Vanessa Tyson, one of the women who has accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual misconduct.
The donations will go “directly to Dr. Tyson, so that she can meet the legal and security expenses incurred by her decision to go public with her story,” a description on the fund’s page reads.
The fund was set up by Melissa Michelson, a professor at Menlo College in California.
Tyson, a professor at Scripps College in California, detailed the alleged assault last week in a statement that said Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex after they had been kissing in his hotel room in 2004 during the Democratic National Convention.
Fairfax, a Democrat, has denied the allegation and said the encounter was consensual.
Amid increasing pressure from his own party to resign, Fairfax has called for an investigation into the allegations against him.
