Anna Schwartz, a distinguished economist and a fine writer, who is perhaps best known for her co-authored books and studies with Milton Friedman, died in New York City a couple days ago at the age of 96. Together, Schwartz and Friedman wrote A Monetary History of the United States, 1867-1960, an 888-page monetary policy tome.
Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke praised the work, according to the New York Times, as “the leading and most persuasive explanation of the worst economic disaster in American history.”
