Rick Scott blasts ‘woke’ Disney, swears off Disney+ streaming service

Sen. Rick Scott of Florida railed against ‘woke central’ Disney in his latest opinion editorial for the Washington Examiner and proclaimed a boycott of its streaming service.

“I have never understood businesses that intentionally engage in partisan politics to the point that they effectively attack half of their potential customers,” Scott wrote. Before becoming a senator, he spent his years in corporate healthcare.

Disney has gotten into hot water for its involvement in recent Florida legislation that bans teachers of children in the third grade and under from discussing sexual topics in any form. Some have inaccurately titled it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. While it has received favorable support from parents, Disney came out against the law, calling for its repeal.

PARENTAL RIGHTS REVOLUTION IS A PROBLEM FOR DEMOCRATS

“The polling shows that fewer than 25% of Americans share the extreme views that Disney has endorsed,” Scott wrote. “That makes sense — Disney is mad that Florida will not allow teachers to talk to 5-year-olds about sex. Florida families couldn’t disagree more.”

“Maybe we should thank Disney for showing us who it really is,” Scott wrote. “I’ll tell you one thing — I won’t be going back or watching Disney+ anytime soon, and I bet a lot more parents and grandparents are making that same choice.”

As a result of the conflict between Florida legislators and Disney, some Republican lawmakers have considered an attempt to remove the Mickey Mouse copyright from the company. Disney has owned the copyright since its inception in 1924 and periodically renewed it without any competition. It is due to expire in 2024.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has toyed with the idea of eliminating Disney’s self-governance in Florida. This would mean that the respective counties would regulate the park. Disney today can pursue infrastructure operations and even levy taxes entirely on its own.
