George Papadopoulos planning to run for Congress in 2020

Fresh out of prison, former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos says he’s running for Congress in 2020.

“It is true. I will be running for Congress in 2020, and I will win. Stay tuned,” he teased in a tweet Friday.

Papadopoulos said he initially joined the Trump campaign to use it as a platform to eventually run for Congress.

“Things just took a different direction,” he told the Telegraph, “but my end game remains the same.”

Papadopoulos, who lives in Los Angeles, said he’s looking at seats in Orange County.

He was released from a Wisconsin prison Dec. 7 after serving 12 days for lying to FBI investigators about his contact with people linked to Russia during the 2016 campaign.

Papadopoulos was told by a Maltese professor in London in 2016 that the Russians had damaging information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. He told an Australian diplomat about the conversation, who then told American officials, initiating an investigation into Trump’s campaign and Russia.

Since pleading guilty, Papadopoulos has alleged he was set up by Western intelligence agencies.
