Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said Tuesday that President Trump cannot be trust to tell the truth, and that history would eventually vindicate her early call for his impeachment.
“There’s no way we can move with an agenda to deal with the middle-class constituency of this country — and poor people, and just the citizens of this country who deserve to have good public policy — with him at the helm,” Waters told the crowd at a Center for American Progress conference.
“We’re not going to be able to move an agenda,” she said. “There are some people who say, ‘Well, can’t you try to work with him?’ No, we cannot. He’s a liar, he cannot be trusted, he’ll say one thing today and another thing tomorrow.”
Waters said Trump’s Cabinet, including Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, opposes most Democratic priorities.
Waters called on the press to do what it can to uncover scandals in Trump’s administration.
“Media, thank you,” she said. “Dig in there, keep doing what you’re doing, keep unfolding and… making it very apparent to all of the American citizens that something is tragically wrong with the president of the United States of America and his allies.”
She said given all of Trump’s problems, history would show that, “Maxine Waters was right. You gotta impeach him.”
