With Steve Dahl, what you see is what you get.
The president of Brewstream, an Ellicott City-based marketing and design agency, says that because of the company?s small size ? three full-time and two part-time employees ? clients get personalized service.
“The good news is, if you like me, you get to work with me,” he said. “The bad news is, if you don?t like me, you still have towork with me.”
Dahl founded Brewstream in Howard County about five years ago when the larger agency he worked for, GRB, went bankrupt.
“I wasn?t a principal, but I was a senior manager,” he said. “After that, I didn?t want to trust my salary in someone else?s hands.”
Some of his GRB colleagues followed Dahl to his new agency, but Dahl said he has been careful with company growth.
“We?ve tried to grow smartly and slowly,” he said. “I think a lot of it ties back to the experience that we had. [The last company we worked for] grew very quickly and didn?t have the foundation to support it.”
Now, Brewstream looks to increase their client base more than employees.
“We look for clients that are a good fit; like any business, we try to avoid business that isn?t good business,” Dahl said.
“We want clients who are trying to improve a part of their company, to grow sales or increase awareness, clients that can add value to our firm.”
