Hillary Clinton argued Tuesday that Donald Trump’s plan to kick out 11 million illegal immigrants would devastate the U.S. economy, and actually make it harder for the U.S. to compete with others.
“The youth and diversity of our workforce is one of our greatest assets. Most of the rest of the world that we compete with is aging,” she said in an economic speech in Columbus, Ohio.
“So by staying, you know, younger and fresher with talents that can be put to work, we’re actually going to be in a stronger economic position in the next decades,” she added.
Clinton said Trump’s plan to deport 11 million immigrants would mostly affect working people, or children going to school.
“This policy is not only wrongheaded and unachievable, it is really bad economics,” she said. “Kicking out 11 million immigrants would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, and it would shrink our economy significantly.”
“Some economists actually argue that just this policy alone would send us into a Trump recession,” she added.
