Neighbors who are pushing back against a development proposed for the Eastern Market neighborhood are asking a city board to delay by one month its consideration of the mixed-use project.
The local Advisory Neighborhood Commission is holding two meetings this month for developer Stanton EastBanc to present its project to the community and address questions and comments from neighbors. The project is planned for the site of the old Hine Junior High School on Pennsylvania Avenue between Seventh and Eighth streets, Southeast.
But because of the considerable community concerns — mostly revoling around the project’s size — the ANC is scheduling an additional meeting in April at a time and place to be determined. At that meeting, the developers will report to the community on any changes in the project which develop after the March meetings.
The ANC is asking the Historic Preservation Review Board to delay its consideration of Stanton’s application until April 28. The HPRB is currently scheduled to take up the application on Mar. 24, and the ANC is supposed to make its recommendation to the board before that meeting.
