Illegal immigrant faces deportation after arrest for assault of man wearing ‘MAGA’ hat in Mexican restaurant

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are set to deport a woman after she was filmed confronting a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat at a Mexican restaurant.

Police in Falmouth, Mass., told WBZ that Rosiane Santos, 41, was at Casa Vallarta where Bryton Turner, 23, was eating dinner and wearing a red hat sporting President Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan. Santos, a Brazilian citizen, allegedly knocked the hat off his head and verbally abused him.

After Santos was arrested, it emerged she was in the U.S. illegally. Turner recorded part of the confrontation on his cellphone and shared the footage on Facebook. “This is the problem. Ignorant people like this,” Turner can be heard saying in the video. “I’m just trying to sit here and eat a nice meal.”

Before he began recording the video, Santos allegedly tried to shove Turner’s face into his food.

Turner also filmed a short part of Santos’ exchange with law enforcement who arrived on the scene following the incident. “Rosie’s not doing too hot right now … she’s getting cuffed,” Turner said while filming Santos as she spoke with two police officers. “Have a nice night in the cell, Rosie.”

Falmouth Police told the Washington Examiner that Santos was intoxicated when officers arrived on the scene, refused to leave the restaurant, and assaulted Turner in the presence of officers. She “remained uncooperative during the booking process” and was charged with disorderly conduct as well as assault and battery.

ICE said officers detained Santos near Falmouth on Tuesday and that it is preparing to deport her. “Santos is currently facing local charges for assault and other offenses. She is presently in ICE custody and has been entered into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” ICE spokesman John Mohan told WBZ.

Geo Macario, the restaurant’s bartender, said Turner was minding his own business prior to his own incident. “The lady didn’t agree with his hat, and I just kept telling her it’s alright, he’s not doing anything to me, why is it even a problem.”
