George W. Bush: ‘I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother’

Former President George W. Bush on Tuesday remembered his mother Barbara Bush’s “levity” and “love” after the former first lady died at the age of 92.

“Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was,” George W. Bush said in a statement, referring to his “dear mother.”

“Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions. To us, she was so much more,” he continued.

George W. Bush said his mother kept him, his father former President George H. W. Bush, and the rest of their extended family on their toes and had them “laughing until the end.”

“I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Our family will miss her dearly, and we thank you all for your prayers and good wishes,” he added.

Barbara Bush, who served as first lady from 1989 to 1993, died after a yearlong battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.
