Sasse, Perdue join Senate Armed Services Committee

The Senate Armed Services Committee will welcome four new members in the 115th Congress.

On the Republican side, Sens. Ben Sasse of Nebraska and David Perdue of Georgia will join the committee. They fill the seats of Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who will no longer serve on the committee, and Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., who did not win re-election.

Sasse was a leading voice against President-elect Trump throughout the campaign, and could be a contrarian voice alongside Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz.

“We also know that Washington isn’t prepared for the national security challenges of the age of cyberwarfare and global jihad that will be my constant focus on the Armed Services Committee,” Sasse said in a statement.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan will join the Democrats on the committee.
