Lane closure continues on Bay Bridge

One lane of the eastbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will be closed again this week for inspections.

The lane will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Wednesday, Maryland Transportation Authority officials said in their e-mail updates on the Bay Bridge.

To help with the traffic flow, the westbound span will be open to two-way traffic.

A truck driver died Aug. 12 when his tractor-trailer broke through the eastbound span’s concrete barrier during a collision and plunged into the Bay below. That span was operating with two-way traffic.

Last week, the eastbound span was reduced to one lane while inspectors examined the barriers.

MdTA officials ask motorists to obey the 40 mph speed limit, use headlights and keep a safe distance between vehicles.
