A Japanese billionaire opened up applications to be his life partner as he works to go to the moon.
Yusaku Maezawa, a 44-year-old billionaire who founded Japan’s largest online fashion retailer, posted the announcement to Twitter, writing, “[WANTED!!!] Why not be the ‘first woman’ to travel to the moon?”

He linked to the application website, where he explained that he is looking for a “female partner to go to the moon” with him. He noted that he has had a “long-held dream” of going into space with a significant other and felt the application process could be a good way to find his other half.
“He has had a long-held dream of going into space. He wants to visit such a special place together with a special someone. Through serious one-on-one planned matchmaking, Maezawa looks to find his life partner,” the website states.
Maezawa listed the requirements for the woman of his dreams, including a minimum age of 20, a “bright personality,” and “someone who wishes for world peace.” Applications to join him close on Jan. 17, and he said he hopes to have his life partner selected by the end of March.
The billionaire explained that he sees space as his next phase in life after a successful business career, writing, “Now I’m restarting my life. I’m 44 now. As feelings of loneliness and emptiness slowly begin to surge upon me, there’s one thing that I think about: continuing to love one woman.”
Maezawa owned ZOZOTOWN, an online fashion outlet that he sold to SoftBank in September. Forbes estimated his net worth to be at least $2 billion. The entrepreneur, and possibly his plus-one, will be some of the first people aboard a SpaceX passenger flight that will circle the moon in 2023.
