Sanders: ‘In til the last ballot is cast’

Bernie Sanders vowed Tuesday night to fight to the bitter end against Hillary Clinton, fresh off a virtual tie in Kentucky, and an expected win in Oregon.

“There are a lot of people out there … they say, ‘Bernie Sanders should drop out,'” he said at a rally in California as the audience booed. “‘The people of California should not have the right to determine who the next president will be.'”

“Well, let me be as clear as I can be,” he added. “I agree with you. We are in til the last ballot is cast.”

Sanders is all but mathematically eliminated, as Clinton is on the verge of getting the majority of delegates and superdelegates she needs to clinch the nomination. Sanders’ refusal to leave the race is starting to lead to worries that he and his supporters might somehow challenge Clinton during the Democratic convention in July, or at least make it harder for all Democrats to unite around Clinton.

Sanders predicted he can still win in California, even though polls show Clinton ahead.

“No one can predict the future, but I think we have a real shot to win primaries in a number of the states that will be coming up,” he said.

“And don’t tell Secretary Clinton, she might get nervous,” Sanders added. “I think we’re gonna win here in California.”
