Obama’s DC volunteers asked to help in Virginia

President Obama’s D.C. campaign organizers are deploying to Virginia over the weekend to help rally voters for Tuesday’s legislative elections.

An email from the Obama campaign to his Washington supporters said they should “really think about joining us in Virginia” Saturday through Election Day “to protect the progress we’ve made together over the last three years.”

Virginia Democrats are fighting to maintain a 22-18 majority in the state Senate while Republicans hope to capture the chamber and assume complete control of the statehouse.

“They’re a fun way to meet other Obama volunteers, check out a different city, and of course, help get voters to the polls in an important local election,” D.C. Director Kouri Marshall said in the message.

  • That’s fine with Gov. Bob McDonnell, who will launch his own last-minute “get-out-the-vote” push with his fellow Republicans.

McDonnell, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, House Speaker Bill Howell and Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie will fly around the state Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in a 72-hour campaign rally for Republican candidates.

“If the president’s folks want to come in and talk about the president’s ideas and his record, we welcome that and enjoy making the contrast,” McDonnell told The Washington Examiner Thursday.
