There is always redemption, even in the pizza shop.
The New England Patriots have pulled 24-year-old Sebastian Gutierrez out of a North Dakota pizza restaurant in order to join the practice squad as an offensive lineman.
OPINION: DEATH, TAXES, AND WHY THE JETS LOSE
Gutierrez starred at North Dakota’s Minot State University and signed with the Denver Broncos in May as an undrafted free agent. However, the team waived him in August.
His next stop was an Uncle Maddio’s Pizza in Minot, North Dakota, where he continued to train in the meantime.
His old boss was ecstatic over Gutierrez’s latest move.
“Never thought in a million years I would have a NFL player working for me,” Uncle Maddio’s owner Losson Leonard wrote on Facebook.
Leonard also said in a local TV interview that he thought Gutierrez might have been hired for security when he first saw him.
“He’s, like, you’re my favorite pizza place, so might as well get a job here, so that’s what happened,” Leonard told Fox affiliate KYFR. “My manager Denise gave him a job, and he worked for us two, three days a week whenever he could when he’s not training.”
