Sarah Sanders: White House has ‘nothing to add’ to Trump’s tweet on Joe Scarborough

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Thursday she had nothing to add to President Trump’s suggestion Wednesday that MSNBC host Joe Scarborough should be investigated for the death of a former congressional aide.

Sanders told reporters during the White House press briefing that she didn’t have “anything to add on that front beyond the tweet” when asked about Trump’s tweet.

On Wednesday, Trump referenced the 2001 death of 28-year-old Lori Klausutis, a congressional aide for Scarborough who was found dead in his district office in Okaloosa County, Fla.

“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the ‘unsolved mystery’ that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!” the president tweeted.

The president appeared to be suggesting that the MSNBC host and former Florida congressman should be investigated for potential involvement in Klausutis’ death.

A medical examiner, though, said the 28-year-old had an abnormal heart rhythm and lost consciousness, falling and hitting her head on a desk. The fall ultimately led to her death.

Scarborough has denied conspiracy theories that he was involved in Klausutis’ death.
