President Trump on Saturday accused congressional Democrats and federal investigators of attempting to “take you out with bullshit.”
“Unfortunately, you put the wrong people in a couple of positions, and they leave people for a long time that shouldn’t be there, and all of a sudden, they’re trying to take you out with bullshit, OK?” Trump said during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland. “Now, Robert Mueller never received a vote, and neither did the person that appointed him.”
Special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of federal prosecutors are currently investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia. The special counsel’s office is also looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.
Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was nominated for his position by Trump.
Trump frequently slams Mueller’s probe as a “witch hunt” that is run by a group of “angry Democrats” and did so again Saturday. He also took aim at Democrats on Capitol Hill who, now with control of the House, are launching investigations into the president and a number of his dealings, including his ties to Russia, finances, and real estate business.
“They don’t have anything with Russia. There is no collusion. So now they go and morph into, ‘Let’s inspect every deal he’s ever done. We are going to go into his finances, we’re going to check his deals, we are going to check…’ — these people are sick,” Trump said.
The president also ridiculed Rep. Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, calling the California Democrat “Shifty Schiff.”
“He went into a meeting and he said, ‘We are going to look into his finances,’” Trump said of Schiff. “I said, where did that come from? He always talked about Russia, collusion with Russia. The collusion delusion.”
