House speaker Paul Ryan took note Friday that now is “the first time in a while” Congress and the White House have been like-minded on advancing pro-life causes.
“Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country march on Washington today, united around a single purpose: defending life,” Ryan said in a video message. “And, for the first time in a while, I am happy to say that the House, the Senate, and now the White House are united around that same purpose.”
The speaker highlighted some specific measures President Donald Trump and the House have taken in just the last week, including the reinstatement of a policy banning taxpayer money from funding abortions abroad and the passage of a bill to ban taxpayer money from funding abortions in the United States.
He also thanked the march participants for their “passion and courage.”
“Know that we march with you and that we will not stop fighting until every life is protected under the law.”
Ryan and congressional Republicans were participating in day three of a party retreat in Philadelphia Friday. But Vice President Mike Pence became the highest ranking administration official to address a March for Life in person, telling the crowd that “life is winning again in America.”
