Police looking for violent Olney bank robber

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police and FBI are searching for a man who robbed a bank in Olney.

Police said the man robbed the Wachovia Bank branch at 16810 Georgia Ave. around 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 30.

The man entered the bank and pointed a handgun at a teller. The suspect then struck the teller in the face with his weapon and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash. Police said the man fled the bank by foot. The teller was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male who is 6-feet-2 inches to 6-feet-4 inches tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds. Police said he looked to be between 25 and 35 years old. The man was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black sunglasses.

Police obtained photos of the suspect from a video surveillance camera in Wachovia.

Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call the Major Crimes Division — Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.
