New York man charged after biting officer’s arm

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (AP) — A man who got into a scuffle with police on Long Island has been charged with disorderly conduct and other offenses after biting a police officer on her arm.

Suffolk County police arrested 66-year-old Daniel Karpen around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in Huntington. Authorities say Karpen refused a public safety officer’s request to search his backpack as he was entering a public meeting, and ran into another room.

Officers who were at town hall attempted to handcuff Karpen, who was causing a disturbance, and he bit a female officer on her arm.

The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Karpen, of Huntington, is being held overnight at a police precinct. He’ll be arraigned Wednesday in Central Islip district court. It’s not known if he has a lawyer.
