Suicide bombers struck two mosques in Afghanistan on Friday, killing dozens of worshippers on a day reserved for prayer.
Explosives were detonated inside a Shiite mosque on the southwestern side of Kabul. A police official said, “People were inside the mosque; we do not how many. It no doubt seems like an attack,” according to the Washington Post.
An Afghan official at the Interior Ministry said separately that at least 30 people were killed in the blast at the Imam Zaman mosque.
Another bombing struck a Sunni mosque in the central part of the country, killing at least 20 people. An anti-Taliban commander inside was reportedly the target, according to a member of the Afghan parliament in Ghor.
The pair of bombings is the latest in a string of attacks in Afghanistan that has left more than 150 people dead in the last week.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.
