Trump thanks North Korea for vowing to destroy nuclear site

President Trump on Saturday thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for vowing to destroy a nuclear test site ahead of negotiations between the two countries.

“North Korea has announced that they will dismantle Nuclear Test Site this month, ahead of the big Summit Meeting on June 12th. Thank you, a very smart and gracious gesture!” Trump wrote.

North Korea said it would hold a “ceremony” in late May to dismantle its nuclear test site, weeks before Trump and Kim are set to meet in Singapore, the Associated Press reported.

During a summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-In in April, Kim said he planned to shut down the site.

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said Saturday that it would destroy the tunnels in its northeastern testing ground in an explosion. Observation and research facilities would also be destroyed.

Journalists from the U.S., South Korea, China, Russia and Britain will be invited to inspect the process, North Korea said.
