Maxine Waters: Trump has failed on coronavirus response because ‘average American’ doesn’t trust him

Rep. Maxine Waters claimed the United States was unprepared for the coronavirus because the average person lacks trust in President Trump.

“Well, you know, one of the problems that we have is there’s not a lot of trust from the average American in the president of the United States,” the California Democrat said Friday on MSNBC.

“Unfortunately, he has been documented to have lied so many times, to distort, to change the story, and so, you know, one of the things we look for in a leader and particularly the president of the United States is the kind of leadership where people can trust you because of the way you have conducted yourself as you have led the presidency, been in the presidency.”

Waters added that Trump gave out “misinformation” in the early stages of the fight against the virus that has killed 51 people in the U.S. and has “stepped on his own credibility” trying to do “cleanup.”

Waters said earlier this week that President Trump needs to “shut his mouth” and let other people handle the coronavirus situation.

The congresswoman has been a staunch critic of the president for several years and has called for violence against his supporters and suggested he’s a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Trump addressed the nation from the White House Rose Garden on Friday and declared a national emergency in an attempt to gather more federal funding and resources to combat the virus.
