Social conservatives looked past President Trump’s personal foibles and formed the bulwark of his support because they believe that he is unabashedly “on their side.”
That’s how Michael Graham, the creative director at the Washington Examiner and former conservative talk radio host, described Trump’s relationship with this key voting bloc in the latest “Examining Politics.” Graham, a native of small-town South Carolina who spent 15 years talking to conservative voters on his radio program, talked about the president’s pact with social conservatives on the Washington Examiner’s weekly podcast.
“Why would evangelical Christians … why would they back DT?” Graham said. “These are people who wouldn’t vote for [Hillary] Clinton, because, allegedly, of morality, and they’re voting for Donald Trump … The reason is because, they felt like they were under siege, that they’d been labeled all these awful things; they were scared to express their own opinion. And, here was a guy who they don’t like, who they don’t want to emulate at all, but he was on their side.”
Graham also hosts the Washington Examiner’s “The First 100 Days” podcast, chronicling Trump’s first 100 days in the White House.
“Examining Politics” is available on PodcastOne.com, iTunes, and at the Washington Examiner’s website.
